It gives you a deeper understanding of the history of the city and the evolution of societal and political views through art. And the best part, it's FREE!
CURRYWURST - Berlin is well known for their 'Currywurst' (sliced pork sausage in curry sauce). We indulged in some great Currywurst and a beer at a little stall positioned conveniently at the end of the East Gallery walk. Very satisfying after a long walk in the cold!
Channeling my best 'so don't care' look for getting into Berghain. It must have worked.
Not everyday you wake up at 1am to go clubbing, times like this call for German candy and vodka.

Dramatic skies over the river that divides east and west Berlin
HITLER'S BUNKER - This is the area where Hitler's bunker existed. It is where he committed suicide with his wife Eva Braun who he had just married 2 days earlier. It is now a carpark and is not something the Berlin community want to draw attention to or worship which is why there are no signs referring to its past.
LUZIA BAR - Trendy little bar in Kreuzberg. Great for a late night drink. Cosy candlelit lighting and creative cocktails.
MEIN HAUS AM SEE (My house at the lake) - hipster bar with comfy couches, live music and cocktail specials. Great people watching.
MUSEUM DER DINGE - Nazi kids toys at the 'Museum der Dinge' in the artistic neighborhood of Kreuzberg. The museum features objects and industrial design from the past 125 years.
One of the top left windows of this building is where a dramatic escape from socialist East Berlin occurred during the Cold War. A man that worked for the government got his wife and child to hide in the bathroom at work and then stayed until after hours. They then each zip lined across the border without the guards seeing. It's one of the few successful attempts of its kind.

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL BERLIN - This vast maze of grey concrete is a monument to the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust. It is a emotional place to visit with rolling levels of thick concrete pillars. As you walk through you sink deeper and deeper; the walls start to rise up around you evoking feelings of powerlessness. As you go further into the maze you get a sense of being lost and alone and anxiety of not being able to find your way back. It makes you reflect deeply on the horrific experience of the Holocaust victims and realize the torturous phycological and physical journey that was forced upon them.
